Call for Papers: Minority Language Media and Language Vitality

PLURILINGMEDIA invites contributions to a new edited volume on the relationship between minority language media and language vitality. The publication aims to advance the discussion on how media can support speakers of lesser-used languages and contribute to language maintenance, revitalisation and development in contemporary societies.

The volume will explore the role of different types of media – including traditional media, digital platforms and social media – in shaping language use, literacy, community building and collective identity. It also seeks to address broader questions concerning language attitudes, representation, language planning and the impact of new technologies on minority and minoritised languages.

A particular focus of the book is the comparative analysis of minority language media across different linguistic and geographical contexts. Contributors are encouraged to develop comparative perspectives, ideally in collaboration with researchers working on similar topics in other language communities.

The editors welcome contributions addressing media production, content and use in regional, minority and minoritised language settings worldwide.

The volume is edited by Nicole Dołowy, Sanita Martena, Lara Sorgo, Heiko Marten and Craig Willis.

Deadline for abstracts: 30 September 2026.

Abstracts should be submitted to plurilingmedia@gmail.com.
